This place is magical, the energy is vibey, classic and old school. Beautiful jazz on a Thursday night, and our waitress, Pauline, was absolutely incredible! She was so kind, so wonderful and just made our experience that much more enjoyable. The manageress was warming and attentive, and even came to check in on our experience. The head chef is a master at his craft, and I can honestly say, makes a baklava better than a Turk can (I know, I’ve been there!). What a special place, what special flavors. An absolute must-visit as a TOP dining and social experience in Cape Town.

Read full reviewMy husband is fondly known as the fussy vegetarian in our home. Whenever we go out he prepares himself for what he calls "a plate of utter disappointment". However, it was not this night. The Athletic Club blew us away with their service and their vegetarian and vegan menu. Owner Athos and his wife are both vegan and thus the menu is inspired by their Greek roots with a contemporary twist. The Athletic Club also caters for the carnivores with items like squid, beef fillet and kleftiko. The drinks menu is extensive and did I mention the jazz? Live jazz jams while you sip a cocktail, transports one to the French quarter of the Big Easy instantly, and right at home in the heart of Cape Town. A definite must for food and entertainment. We highly recommend The Athletic Club & Social.
The food was excellent and staff is exceptionally friendly and well trained. The restaurant also has a lovely ambience.
Brilliant evening! Great food, services and atmosphere!

About The Athletic Club & Social
Cuisine: Mediterranean, Vegetarian
Cosy enough for romantic dates, but equally well-paired to group gatherings, this three-storey bar and restaurant is pure opulence!
The brown-hued three-storey Victorian building is bringing new life and class to the inner city. There is a large veranda looking out onto the mountains and cosy corners to eat, drink and relax.
The tapas bar and restaurant offers a menu combining Greek, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The coal-fired rotisserie will transport you far north-east with authentic pita breads loaded with lamb or chicken. All meats and fish are sustainably and ethically sourced. They serve lunch, dinner, drinks and coffee.
