Read full reviewVery nice to get Asian food in Franschhoek now, especially with Korean flavors! It is a nice fine dining experience, but not too overloaded. All the dishes were extremely delicate and served nicely. We had to order the fluffy cheesecake a second time. Only the edamame were a bit overcooked. After this feedback a drink came on the house. Wow! One more surprise was a quick chat with the chef cook after the dinner.
We definitely come back again.
Thank you
Had a great experience at Oku. Food was not all perfect, but generally very good. Refreshing to have an asian-driven fine dining experience. We'll be back soon.
We had an amazing experience at Oku. The ambiance is so calming and the overall feel of the space is light and modern. Our server Theo was charming, attentive and knowledgeable. The food is truly impressive, beautifully presented and full of flavour, each course was so well balanced and the whole meal flowed perfectly.
This was our first stay at Ōku. This asian inspired menu was the best we ever had. Flavours of every course were so special. You don't have to travel overseas. Visiting Ōku is all you need. Service was outstanding and Handrick our waiter was so good. Explaining everything perfect. Will def. come back soon.
One of the best meals I've had. The flavours combined well and the set menu had a little bit of everything. The staff are well trained. The restaurant is extremely neat and the decor makes you feel as though you are sitting in Tokyo. The set menu is the way to go.

About Ōku
Cuisine: Japanese / Sushi, Vegetarian
Oku Franschhoek’s first Asian eatery
The highly anticipated opening of Ōku, the concept and vision of Chef/restaurateur duo Ryan Shell and Darren Badenhorst (Le coin Français, Le chêne and Tuk Tuk Microbrewery), is here.
The two acclaimed chefs, with over 30 years of hospitality experience, are pooling their culinary prowess to create Franschhoek’s first South East Asian eatery.
Total renovations of the interior and exterior ensure a purpose designed space to create a casual, calming and refined eating experience.
Conceptualised on a culinary exploration of Indonesia in 2013, Darren and Ryan were especially inspired by the Gili Islands.
The two chefs had ample time to refine the idea whilst working together to feed the Franschhoek community during the Covid-19 lock down period, resulting in a thoroughly conceptualised, authentic and flavour packed food and beverage offering.
Bookings essential to avoid disappointment.
